Hurricane season is upon us. In my book, storms are star characters, nature having its way with the island and the people upon them. I admire that about a good storm- how it reminds us that we are not at all in charge. There are forces that work beyond our bright minds, and we learn to bend when they blow.

Marina has suggested Sugarloaf as an option for delivery. In the shallows there, the Atlantic side. Wednesday we get together at the public pool so I can learn some of the methods for waterbirthing. So far, everything I know comes from intuition. The books I read don’t seem to tell me much, or the ones that do put a heavy slant on what’s mainstream, and my ways of approaching this seem far from mainstream. I have recently, however, finished a fantastic book that has illuminated me more by its approach than any other book so far. “A Journey Into Being,” by Christine Ramos, R.N. It’s a true representation of science meeting spirit, which is what resonates for me about this experience of being pregnant. She offers insight into the soul of a child, how it chooses its family, how to understand energy dynamics in the infant once s/he leaves the womb, and ways to increase intuitive responsiveness to children before they are able to communicate their needs via language. Her website, which I’ve yet to explore, is www.intuitivenurturing.com.

… “Before conception even occurs, there is the soul, and the soul has a history, a present and a future. It has an agenda for his/her life, and although intermingled with the lives of its chosen family, its soul is not a reflection of those it physically resembles. He may have the same color eyes as his mother, the same feet as his father, and the same wavy hair as his brother, but know that a child’s soul is purely unique. Conception is just part of the continuum of a soul’s existence, the journey into emerging greatness. The role of the parents and all those of authority around the child is to honor the process by protecting, nurturing, and facilitating the blossoming of the spirit.”

For a reason I do not yet fully know, this soul has chosen us to be the nurturers for its physical body form. I hope I do a good enough job with this karmic contract. I think Rob and I have many unique and complementary perspectives and interests to offer her in helping her discover her true nature on this plane. And already, she has been such a gift to me, teaching me how to be more tuned in to my own physical needs, how to go slow, be patient, and pay attention to all the intuitive cues that are sprinkled throughout the hours of each day. As both an artist and a human being wanting to evolve, what could possibly be better?
